Back in the day, a hole in the head was a more entertaining thought, than managing your website’s content. For developers it was a great time - they could easily access your website’s backend, make changes, and provide you an invoice. But what about the regular folk? Without the assistance of a developer your website remained untouched, and rapidly became - what’s the word? - aha! Stagnant. Don’t you agree?

BUT... and yes, there needs to be a big BUT, the development of the Content Management System - otherwise know as a CMS - made everyone’s life (erm, those with a website) a lot easier. Website owners now have the power and tools to manage their website’s content on a regular basis.

Why do you need a CMS?

A website without relevant and up to date content is like a body without a soul. Eeessh! So you’re saying a website is dead without content? Sounds pretty drastic don’t you think? Simply put, yes, but what’s a website without content? Nothing but a lot of pretty looking pages. By implementing a content management system you can add content whenever you want, and keep it up-to-date and fresh for your website visitors.

Hint: Websites with outdated content - and cluttered web pages - don’t engage the user, and the chances are they will go elsewhere for more up-to-date, easy-to-read, and relevant content.

Creating content for your website

You have a website, you have your content management system, but you’re missing the final ingredient - the website content! Now when we say “content” we tend to refer to the text, but there is other “content” that you need to consider as well: images that you want on your website, and any videos that might need embedding. However, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being “the most time spent ever doing anything ever” - writing content is definitely a 10.

Now, unless you’re a wordsmith who loves creating stories, and crafting content - like the guy writing this - then it will take time and effort. BUT... and yes, it’s the 2nd big BUT of this page, the results you will see from having great and engaging content on your website is worth all the time you are going to spend creating it.
